Curriculum

MJPA Cadets are required to take classes in the core academic content areas (English, Math, Science, and History) and Physical Training/Conditioning.  In addition, they will be enrolled in grade level specific Police Academy electives
  • 7th grade
    • Forensics Evidence
      • Forensic Evidence Analysis is a 10 week course that focuses on the skills used by Criminologists to solve various crimes by analyzing evidence collected at a crime scene. Cadets will be utilizing techniques and learning theories used to analyze and evaluate types of crime scene evidence. Emphasis will be placed on biological evidence. Field trips include visits to county and federal courts, law enforcement agencies, and the medical examiner’s office.​
    • iCommunicate [Investigative Communication]
      • The iCommunicate course is a 20 week elective that will reinforce core content standards in English. This course is designed for Police Academy Cadets to organize information, listen more attentively, and respond better to questions. Cadets will be asked to “think like an LAPD Officer” as they grow as learners.​
  • 8th grade
    • C.S.I. [Crime Scene Investigations]
      • The CSI course is a 20 week elective course designed to develop inquiry skills applied in law enforcement investigations.  This course is to concentrate on the collection & handling of data obtained from a crime scene.  Focus is on logic/reasoning and higher order thinking skills that are employed in solving crimes.  Course provides reinforcement of math and physical science standards.​
    • iAmerican, Law & Government
      • The iAmerican course is a 20 week elective that will reinforce core content standards in English and Civics. This course is designed for Police Academy Cadets to develop an in-depth understanding of the state and federal judicial systems, rule of law, and civic responsibilities. ​
